The Mysteries of Harris Burdick

Using the book, The Mysteries of Harris Burdick, we wrote our own short stories.   Students had to look at the illustration, then read the line that went with it.  They were required to use the line from the book somewhere in their short story.  They had a blast!  You can find the book on Amazon!

Ever wonder how many sheets are on a standard roll of toilet paper?  We did some toilet paper geometry and students had to figure out the area of the paper by unrolling all an entire roll of toilet paper and forming a four-sided figure with it.  It was a lot of fun and we were surprised by the results!

Now that is a lot of toilet paper!  Who knew????

Blast OFF with Paper Rockets and Design Process Labs!!

The kids had a blast building paper rockets using just a sheet of copy paper, two index cards and tape.  We used a piece of PVC pipe to wrap the paper around and form the barrel of the rocket, then just added a nose cone and fins.  We did a bunch of design process labs testing the best barrel length, cone shape, fin location and type.  It was a lot of fun and a great precursor to the upcoming Invention Convention!  We launched them using the Air Hogs Stomp Launcher.

It was tons of fun!  :)

Literature Fair Examples

Literature Fair Projects
Students have to create literature fair project boards on the book of their choice.  The boards are set-up similar to science fair boards, just with story elements.  There is a packet that can be used to assist students in this amazing project!

Dental Health Labs
We tested egg shells in various liquids, one covered in tootthpaste and one uncovered.  The egg shells are very similar to your teeth.  We were surprised by some of the results!  Who knew orange juice is terrible for your teeth???
